Family Service February - March 2008
Topic: The Holy Spirit
The Spirit of God came on the day of Pentecost, as the rushing mighty wind and the tongues of flame; and from that day to this he has been with his people. This short series will help us to understand the Holy Spirit, His role in our lives and the challenge of living in His power.
10th Feb So who is the Holy Spirit....? Paul Graham

It is important that we understand that the Holy Spirit is not an "it"  but rather a person. The very spirit of God comes to live in all Christians to be our helper and the guarantee of our membership of God's family.

The Holy Spirit teaches us about sin and forgiveness through God. Amazingly the Holy Spirit teaches us what is on the mind of God for each of us. It is as we learn the truth that we experience freedom in our lives.
John 14: 15 - 31; John 16: 5 - 15; John 8; 32

17th Feb Guaranteed by the Spirit Jeremy Balfour
  All Christians are "sealed" by the Spirit; the deposit that guarantees our inheritance. We do not need to live in fear of being rejected by God but rather can find security in God's family.
Ephesians 1: 11 - 14

2nd March The Power to Change Ken Brown
  It has been said that God loves us just as we are but is not content to leave us that way. Through his Holy Spirit God works in us to change our very characters to make us more like Jesus. We are challenged to be filled with the Spirit on an ongoing basis, each day of our lives. How do we learn to do this and how do we make sure we don't grieve the Spirit
Ephesians 5: 18; Galatians 6: 22 - 26; Ephesians 4: 30;

9th March The Power to Serve Joe Adrain
  One writer said: "The Spirit equips us to serve God by imparting his gifts, directing our ministry and anointing us with power".   God has much work for us to do in His service and He gives us all that we need to serve him. However, we must guard our walk with God and make sure that we are available to be used by Him.
Ephesians 1: 15 - 23; 2 Timothy 2
