2007 MATCH REPORTS & NEWS
25/8/07      Bellevue wrap up the series in style

Davidsons Mains 60 (all out, 14.5 overs)
Bellevue 62/3 (7.4 overs)

Bellevue eased to victory last night at Newfield, after D Mains had posted an insubstantial 60 in their innings. Too many needless run-outs and some good bowling contibuted to their downfall, although J Kelly attempted to donate some runs to their cause with an extraordinary spell of head high full tosses. However he made amends by clean bowling one of their best batsmen. Robson's apparent attempts to join him in helping the D Mains score along in the last over only succeeded in taking two wickets in two balls, and ended up on an unfulfilled hat-trick, much as Quinn and Peach had done last week and Osbourne was to do later in this game.

The normal 20 over game was replaced by 15 8-ball overs, in an attempt to reduce the time lost between overs and thus rage against the dying of the light, as it were. More innovations were to follow, with Clive carrying his bat for a stoical 9 not out, I'Anson top-scoring (even beating the extras), Letchford scoring some runs, and Paul Friend bowling economically. It's just a pity erstwhile skipper Costley was holidaying in Magaluf and unable to be there to see it.

And that, sadly, is that for the 2007 season. Just time to thank you all for playing, and a particularly big thank you to my mum for providing food and drinks at every game, and Robbo for learning how to use a barbeque last night. Until next year...

14/8/07      D Mains edged out (in thriller, obviously)

Davidsons Mains 77 (all out, 19 overs)
Bellevue 81/9 (14.4 overs)

Summer might just be here. The sun has been making the odd appearance, and D Mains have been rolled over in the cricket. Except it wasn't quite that straightforward.... Chasing a target of 77 mostly accumulated by D Mains' new overseas amateur, Bellevue had Mark Robson to thank for an unflustered 29 not out which formed the backbone of the reply. Costley also chipped in with a worthy 18, after Liddell and Parks had starred with the ball. Stuttering over the finish line, Parks chipped one to extra cover with the scores tied, and the returning Robson had to look sharp to dig a yorker out, before calmly hooking a full toss for four to settle the result.

Final game of the season is the return game against D Mains, on Friday 24 August. Get your availability in now!

20/7/07      The run continues...

Bellevue 104/4 (20 overs)
Informatics 57/7 (all out, 15.3 overs)

A Bellevue team sporting a few new faces ran out comfortable winners in the end over an Informatics side strong in quality rather than quantity. A good batting performance, especially from Obed and Paul (25no each), followed by an unusually tight fielding and bowling display, kept the winning start(!) to the season intact.

Thanks to Kenny D for fielding for the oppo, especially the dropped catch, Anne for copping another few bruises for the cause, and Iain and Stuart in particular for helping us out when we were desperately looking for players yesterday...

20/7/07      Bellevue Cricket match really does go ahead

It really did. At Peffermill, against E=MCC. A bewildered Bellevue team, unused to actually starting a game, forgot themselves for a moment and were seen engaging in some fielding practice before the start. Yes, there were even some of us at the ground before 6pm. However, Captain Costley restored some much needed familiarity by losing the toss for the nth time, and the traditionalists among us breathed a sigh of relief.

In the game itself, new boy Paul the Aussie bowled well (2-18), as did Costley (0-14) and Liddell (2-21), and we restricted the Physics boys to 96. The batting reply got off to a solidly unspectacular, if not completely turgid start, with Kelly and Quinn scratching out 34 for the first wicket. I'Anson came in and injected some much needed urgency; Friend came and went without using his finely-honed backlift to much effect, before Paul the Aussie and Costley settled the large travelling support's collective nerves with a spine-tingling partnership to put the result beyond doubt. Next game next Friday. Weather permitting, of course...
