Advent Reader: Light of the World

John 1:6-9

Having spent my childhood meeting up with my cousins on a regular basis, and having a great relationship with all of them, I wonder if John and Jesus were similar? I can imagine the two boys playing boisterously while Mary and Elizabeth looked on fondly; two boys inextricably linked, not only by blood, but by their part in God's amazing plan.

John the Baptist, the forerunner, telling the world of the One who was to come, the One far greater than those who had gone before, and Jesus, the Chosen One, the Light of the World revealed as God’s own Son. A son who stepped down into the darkness of this world to live a fully human life and die a criminal’s death so that mankind would be saved by His sacrifice.

That light and salvation can be ours this Advent. All we have to do is ask Jesus into our lives, and tell others the good news, just as John did two thousand years ago.
