Advent Reader: God Restores His People
Matthew 1:12-17
This portion of scripture follows the final third of the genealogy to Jesus, the period after the exile to the coming of Jesus. At first glance you may think why do we need to read this, the names are hard to pronounce and most of them we’ve probably never even heard of.
Yet, as we look more deeply we see that between the generations of Zerubbabel and Abihud was when the last recorded prophet, Malachi lived. There was then about 400 years of silence from God whilst the people waited for the Messiah. In this time God was restoring His people to Himself.
Do you feel God is silent? It is in this silence, when we really still ourselves, which is so hard in such a busy world that we know God. “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10)
This Christmas as we wait to celebrate the birth of the Messiah, take some time to carve out some silence with God, to restore your soul and hear what He has to say to you today.
