Advent Reader: Follow Me
Matthew 4:1-11
I remember that day so well. It was hot In the Custom House, people cross at having to pay their tax plus, of course, my fee. Then the man arrived everyone was talking about, his name Jesus. He looked straight at me and said only two words “follow me.” They were irresistible, and I did. Nothing else mattered to me.
As I reflect on that day, was I right to follow him? Absolutely! With Christ as my Lord and Messiah, I learned that God’s Word had the power to build my life differently; as a Satan-defeating life. He told me of His desert temptations and how mighty a foe the devil was. I didn’t need to be persuaded of that, but He told me that if I relied on God’s Word “it is written” then I too would defeat the evil one. I realised, then, how I needed to ensure I knew God’s Word so it was on the tip of my tongue.
My friend Paul wrote something very helpful: go look it up: 1 Corinthians 10 v13. And build your life on God’s Word as I did.
